Hema Malini R Chakraborty was born on October 16, 1948 in Ammankudi, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu in a Tamil Iyengar family. She is the third child born of VSR Chakraborty and film producer Jaya Laxmi Chakraborty. She studied at the Andhra Mahila Sabha in Chennai. Hema married film actor Dharmendra in 1980. Before marrying Dharmendra, both of them converted to religion and married Prakash Kaur who refused to divorce him.
Career
Hema Malini was interested in dance since childhood. She started learning dancing at a very young age. She attended the Andhra Mahila Sabha in Chennai, and later, senior officials of the Delhi Tamil Education Association. School in Delhi. She was good at studies and loved the history topic most. Due to high interest in dance, she left her studies in mid-1961 and debuted as a dancer in a regional film.
In her career of more than two decades, she worked with every famous actor of her time. She appeared in 15 films with superstar Rajesh Khanna. She worked with Dev Anand, Jitendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar and many other artists. Hema Malini made her place as one of the highest paid actresses in the industry within four years after her debut.
In 1999, Hema Malini publicized for Vinod Khanna (BJP), and in 2004, she joined BJP in the Rajya Sabha as a Member of Parliament. She was appointed general secretary of BJP in March 2010. Later, in 2014, she was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha by defeating Jayant Chaudhary by 3,30,743 votes.

Family and Relatives
Hema Malini was born in a Tamil-speaking Hindu family. Her mother, Jaya Lakshmi Chakraborty, was a film producer in the South Indian film industry. Her father’s name was VSR Chakraborty. She is the youngest of her two brothers RK Chakraborty and R.J. Chakravarti; Which are also film producers.
Bollywood actor Sanjeev Kumar offered him a marriage proposal, but she rejected this offer. Later, she joined a co-actor Jitendra in a relationship; This relationship could not last long and finally, it ended.
While working with Dharmendra in the blockbuster film Sholay, Hema Malini attracted him. Both expressed their feelings towards each other and decided to get married. At that time, Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur, and according to Hindu customs, till he did not divorce his first wife, he could not marry Hema. But his wife was not ready to divorce him. In the end, Hema Malini and Dharmendra embraced Islam and married on May 2, 1980.
